Frantic

I got a message from our neighbor in Maine last night. Something is eating my trees. I don't know if it is deer or bugs or moose, but it must be on a level so bad that she would call about it.

It makes me sick to think about it.

This is not a good remote gardener kind of week. It's incredibly frustrating to have such a beautiful spot and well prepared garden, and it is so far away. As its caretaker, I am irresponsible for leaving it.

Dear Orchard In Maine, I miss you. Don't get eaten. Thanks. Love your Long Distance Admirer.

Fruit

With six apple trees, three plum trees and three cherry trees, we got our first fruit this past summer. Miss Critterpants and i split it. It was the most delicious half of a cherry ever tasted!

Cake of Shame

FourLoko has become a kind of joke in a circle of my friends. I would like to say it has been as highbrow as flights and critiques, but it really consists of "Oh that tastes TERRIBLE! Here, you try it!"

For the Superbowl, I took the joke one step too far. I took this socially reviled drink and made it into something familiar, about as far from college parties as one can get. A homemade layer cake with butter cream frosting.

I couldn't bring myself to taste it once it was completed, but people liked it! Un-ironically enjoyed the cake!

Here are the pictures. It all still makes me feel ashamed of using my baking skills for what i feel is evil, not the greater good.
